The top-seeded Dragons host VCU in the CAA Semifinals on Saturday at noon
Drexel to Host Field Hockey Championships this Weekend at Buckley Field

Philadelphia, Pa.— The Drexel field hockey team will host the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at Buckley Field for the second straight season. The Dragons earned the honor by winning the 2010 regular season championship. The top-seeded Dragons will face No. 4 VCU on Nov. 6 at noon in the opening semifinal game while No. 2 Old Dominion will play No. 3 Northeastern at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 7, the winners of the semifinal games will compete in the CAA Championship Final at 1:00 p.m.
General admission is $5 per day while students with ID from participating schools and children 12 and under are admitted free. All tickets will be available at the gate on the days of the event only. A free shuttle to and from Buckley Field will be provided from 33rd & Market St. for all Drexel students and staff with ID. Drexel enters the championships with a 14-4 record overall and a 7-1 mark in the CAA. The Dragons are ranked 18th in the nation in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. They lead the CAA in scoring and goals against average.
Drexel senior forward Christina Mastropaolo is currently ranked second in the CAA in points per game and third in goals per game. Senior Susan Ciufo is sixth in the league in scoring and eight in goals per game. Sophomore Jenna Phillips is tied for the CAA lead with four shutouts and is second in goals against average.
The field hockey team is looking to become the first team at Drexel to advance to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments since 1996, when the men's basketball team accomplished the feat. Last season, Drexel earned an at-large bid and defeated Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Dragons season ended with a loss to Maryland, who advanced to the championship game, on its home field in the second round of the tournament.
