Harrisonburg, Va. - Drexel returns to the JMU Convocation Center today for the first time since celebrating its inaugural CAA Championship on the floor last March. The Dragons will face James Madison in a 7:00 p.m. tip tonight in a game that was rescheduled from Sunday due to snow. Drexel (14-7, 8-2) is looking to bounce back from a loss to Towson on Thursday while James Madison (17-4, 7-3) is riding the momentum of a convincing victory at VCU last week.
Tonight's contest is a rematch of a thrilling 68-67 Drexel victory over the Dukes in Philadelphia in the teams' CAA opener on Jan. 3. That victory was the Dragons' first ever against a ranked opponent, as the Dukes entered the game ranked No. 25 in the nation. Marginean led the Dragons with 23 points in the game and was 9-for-10 from the line. Drexel made six straight free throws in the final seconds to hold off the Dukes for the win.
James Madison went on to win seven of its next nine games in conference play, including a 71-56 win over first-place VCU in Richmond in its most recent contest on Feb. 4. The Dukes are in fourth place in the CAA standings. All-CAA guard Dawn Evans played just 10 minutes in the win and scored five points after going down with an injury in the first half. Kiara Francisco came off the bench to record 16 points and 11 rebounds while helping her team come up with a big CAA road win.
The Dragons had a six-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday with a 53-48 loss to Towson in Maryland on Thursday. Drexel was outrebouned by the Tigers 51-24 and the Tigers converted 19 offensive boards in to 12 points. Towson used a 16-4 run down the stretch to pull away, while holding the Dragons to just one basket during a span of more than 12 minutes. Gabriela Marginean led the team with 28 points, while moving herself into third place on the All-Time Philadelphia scoring list ahead of Saint Joseph's Sue Moran.
