Philadelphia - On Saturday, April 17th, members of Drexel's men's soccer team volunteered their time as part of an Earth Day clean-up project at Cobbs Creek Park. The initiative was sponsored by the Community Alumni Network at Drexel University (CANDU) and the Drexel Alumni Office.
The Dragons stepped in to handle one of the larger projects of the day, which included the removal of several stumps and dead tree limbs as well as planting a number of new trees. The team's efforts helped to clean and beautify an outdoor public recreation space for the benefit of local residents.
After some direction from memebers of the Fairmont Park Commission, the soccer team took to the south slope of the park overlooking a multi-purpose field. The slope was heavily overgrown with weeds and native shrubs and was cluttered with rubbish. By the end of the clean-up, the Dragons had helped to make the area an hospitable one where park-goers could overlook the fields.
This is the thid year that CANDU has sponsored Earth Day projects. The projects are intended to join alumni with current students through community service.
