Five Dragons Earn Places on Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams

Philadelphia – The Philadelphia Inquirer has recognized its final set of Academic All-Area Teams for the 2009-10 collegiate athletics season. Among those honored for their performances as student-athletes this spring are Drexel's Colin Ambler (men's lacrosse), Ashley Botelho (softball), Anthony Fittipaldi (men's rowing), Nikoloz Kurdadze (men's tennis) and Katie Lawson (women's lacrosse).
Ambler, a business administration major with a 3.62 GPA, finished a heralded athletic career at Drexel this season. Along with his All-Conference exploits on the lacrosse field, Ambler also earned the school's top honor for a male athlete: the John Semanik Award.
Botelho completed her Drexel career with a degree in business administration and the softball team's records for hits, RBIs, home runs, batting average and slugging percent. She also earned a place on the Colonial Athletic Association's 25th Anniversary Team.
Fittipaldi, a junior business major with a 3.61 GPA, was a co-captain of Drexel's men's rowing team this season. He helped lead the varsity eight boat to a semifinal appearance in the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta this spring.
On the tennis court, Nikoloz Kurdadze laid claim to the first singles spot for Drexel in his first season with the team. The transfer sophomore earned All-Conference recognition and a 3.57 GPA as a business administration major.
Katie Lawson finished her Drexel lacrosse career as one of the programs all-time leading scorers. She led the CAA with 50 goals this season and is just the second Drexel player ever to accomplish this feat. Lawson completed her senior season with a 3.39 GPA in teacher education.
The Academic All-Area teams are nominated and selected by a vote of sports information directors from all of the Philadelphia area colleges and universities. The Philadelphia Inquirer recognizes teams from each sport during their respective seasons and also honors one top performer from each team as the performer of the year.
