Philadelphia - Drexel Field Hockey released its 2010 schedule as the Dragons will open up the season with a visit from Maryland on Aug. 27 at Buckley Field. Drexel will also face non-conference powers Duke and UConn in a challenging schedule before opening Colonial Athletic Association play. Last season, Drexel finished 19-4 and won the regular season CAA championship before earning an NCAA berth and reaching the Elite Eight at the NCAA Championships.
The Aug. 27 game with the Terrapins will be a rematch of last season's Elite Eight game that Maryland won on its home turf to advance to the Final Four. UConn will also visit Buckley Field in another NCAA rematch on Sept. 19 as the Dragons stunned the Huskies, 3-2, in the first round of the tournament. On Sept. 12, Drexel will travel to Duke where the Blue Devils will be looking to avenge a stunning 4-3 overtime loss that saw the Dragons erase a 3-0 halftime deficit.
Drexel will look to begin the defense of its regular season conference championship on Sept. 24 as Hofstra visits Buckley Field. The Dragons will wrap up the regular season at home against rival Delaware on Oct. 31. Reigning Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year Denise Zelenak also has her team scheduled to go up against Philadelphia area rivals Saint Joseph's, Villanova, Temple and Penn during the regular season.
