Philadelphia - After claiming the Colonial Athletic Association Regular Season Championship and advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2009, Drexel Field Hockey was voted 2010's top team in a preseason poll of the league's coaches. The Dragons were picked first in five of the nine ballots while Old Dominion garnered three first-place votes as the Lady Monarchs are slotted second in the preseason poll. Delaware, last season's CAA Tournament Champion, received the other first-place vote. The Blue Hens are picked to finish fourth behind Drexel, Old Dominion and James Madison.
Drexel returns two former All-Americans for the first time in school history as Susan Ciufo and Christina Mastropaolo don Drexel uniforms for the final time in 2010. The pair combined for 50 goals last season, the most for any duo in Division I returning this season. Also back for Drexel is former All-CAA First Team midfielder Kim Tunell and CAA Defender of the Year Sofia Sanguinetti. The pair were also All-Region selections a season ago when the Dragons posted a 19-4 overall record and finished 10th in the final NFHCA National Poll.
The Dragons open the 2010 season when Maryland visits Buckley Field on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. The Terrapins ousted Drexel in the teams' Elite Eight match-up a season ago on their way to the NCAA Championship Final.
