Drexel Crew Faced No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 14 Penn on Saturday

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew raced against the nation's top rowing programs, No. 6 University of Wisconsin and No. 14 University of Pennsylvania, on Saturday afternoon on the home waters of the Schuylkill River. Wisconsin took first place in all four events.
The men's varsity eight, in the newly named Lois Krall boat, took third place with a time of 6:11.8. Wisconsin pulled ahead with a first-place time of 5:48.1 followed by the Quakers at 5:51.5. The shell consisted of coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Paul Wisniowski, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust and bow Will Masters.
The men's second varsity eight stopped the clock at 6:26.7 behind Wisconsin and Penn. Wisconsin crossed the finish line first with a time of 5:58.8. Penn took second place with a time of 6:12.8. The Annette Pennoni featured coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Timothy Drake, Patrick McGann, Martin Khait, Brian Timlin, John Pieper, Ryan Mallgrave, Kevin Rorabaugh, and bow Pete Eyrich.
The men's freshmen eight posted the Dragons' fastest time of the day at 6:09.7, but was outlasted by Wisconsin. The Badgers stopped the clock ahead of Penn with a time of 5:54.9. Victoria Kenion coxed the Peggy Greenawalt with stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Hartman Byers, Jake Murphy, Christian Ladd, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Cameron Staines.
The men's open four finished with a time of 7:04.3. Wisconsin took first and second place. The Badgers' open four had a top time of 6:32.0 followed by the varsity four at 6:38.1. The Tobey and Kim Oxholm boat included coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Adam Cordi, James Byrne, Mahmoud Shurbaji and bow Matt Gehret.
Drexel's four shells will return to action on Thursday, May 31 through June 2 at the 2012 IRA National Championships, which marks the first-ever team bid for the Dragons. For more information about the regatta, visit www.row2k.com.
