Philadelphia – A New Year's Eve battle with Saint Joseph's and first-time visits from Illinois State and Davidson highlight the Drexel men's basketball home schedule in 2012-13. The Dragons will play 13 games at the Daskalakis Athletic Center this upcoming season. Last year, Drexel won all of its regular season home games and finished with a 15-1 record at the DAC.
The Dragons first home contest comes early this season. On Nov. 15, Illinois State of the Missouri Valley Conference makes its first trip to the DAC. The Redbirds won 21 games a year ago and should be among the favorites to win the Valley this season. Two weeks later, Rider revisits its local rivalry with Drexel on Dec. 1.
Once classes end after the fall semester, the Dragons will have two of the most anticipated non-conference home games in some time. On Dec. 22, Drexel will host Davidson University. The Wildcats won 25 games a year ago as well as the Southern Conference championship. They ended their season with a loss to Louisville in the NCAA Tournament. Four years ago, the Wildcats advanced all the way to the Elite Eight and defeated both Georgetown and Wisconsin in the NCAA's. Saint Joseph's will wrap up the non-conference home slate on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. The Hawks return all five starters from a team that won 20 games.
All but one of Drexel's Colonial Athletic Association foes will come to the DAC this season. The conference home schedule begins on Jan. 5 against Towson. Long-time rival Delaware makes its annual visit on Monday, Jan. 28. The Dragons will play four straight home games in early February. Included in that home stand are games against Old Dominion (Feb. 7), James Madison (Feb. 9), George Mason on Valentine's Day and Hofstra on Feb. 18. UNCW will be the opponent on Senior Day in the DAC when Chris Fouch, Daryl McCoy and Derrick Thomas make their final home appearance. The only CAA team that won't visit Philadelphia is William & Mary.
Dragons men's and women's basketball season tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 4th at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.DrexelTickets.com or calling 866-4-DREXEL.
