Grosh Scores Twice in Men's Soccer 3-3 Draw at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - After finding themselves unable to light up the scoreboard in their season opener on Friday night against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Drexel men's soccer team broke out for three goals on Sunday as the Dragons earned a 3-3 draw at Seton Hall. John Grosh scored twice in the first half, his first-career multi-goal game, and Ken Tribbett added the third Drexel tally of the day for his first of the season just after halftime.
The Dragons responded well after an early Seton Hall goal, scored by Max Garcia in the third minute after a defensive misplay by the Dragons in front of their own net. Twelve minutes later, Grosh got Drexel on the board for the first time in 2013. He took a feed from Nathan Page at the top of the box and drove a shot in to the net, beating Seton Hall keeper Julian Spindler to the back post.
With less than three minutes to play in the first half, Drexel grabbed the lead when Matheus Goncalves fed Grosh for the junior's second goal of the day. Less than two minutes later, though, Samuel Geiler squared things back up with his unassisted free kick from 20 yards out. That goal came with exactly one minute to play in the first half, and sent the teams into the locker rooms even at two apiece.
Just 1:18 into the second half, Ken Tribbett edged Drexel back ahead with his first score of the season. Robert Liberatore took a free kick from 40 yards out, feeding into the box where Tribbett won the ball and redirected his header past Spindler. Quickly, though, Geiler would even things back up with his second score of the day at the 48:03 mark, a hard shot off a Drexel defender that could not be handled as it slipped past Dragon goalkeeper Pentti Pussinen. It appeared that a Drexel defender would have a chance to clear it off the line, but the ball trickled by just before Drexel could get it out of harm's way.
Geiler's second goal wrapped up a period of just 5:36 of game time that saw four goals scored, two for each side. It would also prove to be the game's last, however, as neither squad could punch a winner home over the final 52 minutes of play.
Pussinen finished his day with four saves. He was aided by two defensive team saves that kept Seton Hall from grabbing a lead.
Page's assist on Grosh's first goal gave him his first point of the season and the 40th of his career. That made him the 29th player in program history to reach 40 points in a career, tying him with Ron Pantuck (1963-65) for 29th all-time at Drexel. Next up are Mike Jeremenko (1953-54) and Tony Washofsky (1950, 55-56), who finished their careers with 42 points apiece.
The Dragons will return home on Friday when they take on Sacred Heart at 3:30 p.m. That game is part of the University City Classic, hosted in conjunction with Penn. It also kicks off a Drexel athletics tripleheader with the field hockey team taking on Saint Joseph's at 6:00 p.m. and women's soccer facing Liberty at 8:00 p.m.
