Today was a really fun day in Beijing. We woke up and had an amazing breakfast provided by the wonderful St. Regis Hotel, where we are staying. At 10 a.m. we all went to the a shopping center called Silk Market where they sell everything you can think of from clothes to electronics....they have it all.Players and staff from Drexel and the Beijing Institute of Technology pose for a photo underneath respective school and country flags in the venue used to host gymnastics during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
At the Silk Market bargaining is common when it comes to these types of shops. We were told that whatever price they offer us we should cut it by 70 percent and go up from there. A few of the coaches and other people on our trip got tailor-made suits at this market, too. This was cool to see because they take all your measurements and fit the suit to your body. You get to pick everything from the material, the cut of the suit and even the buttons.
After we finished shopping we had a little down time before our pregame meal so we went back to the hotel and relaxed for a little before we headed over to TGI Friday's for our meal.
Once we finished pregame meal it was about that time to leave for the game, we would play Beijing Institute of Technology. When the game got started, it was competitive from the beginning. Our team had a hard time getting used to the International FIBA rules that they use; but once the game started we got the hang of it and were able to finish well.
We ended up winning the game with the score being 85-79.
The team is really enjoying the trip so far and we can't wait to visit the Great Wall of China tomorrow!
