Sanchez Named CAA Diver of the Year, Headlines Drexel Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Drexel swimming and diving junior David Sanchez was named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Year in a vote by the conference's coaches, the CAA announced.
Joining Sanchez in receiving CAA honors were Drexel teammates Joel Berryman, Alex Chialastri and Kyle Lukens as well as the 200-freestyle relay, 400-freestyle relay and 800-freestyle relay teams.
Sanchez was chosen as the Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet at the CAA Championships for the second time in his career and Men's Diver of the Year. He also won the honor as a freshman in 2013, when he was tabbed Men's Diver and Rookie Diver of the Year. At the CAA Championships in February, Sanchez won the gold medal in the 3-meter competition with a score of 373.35. The junior just nearly took home the gold in 1-meter competition as well, recording a second-place score of 324.10, just 2.2 points off from first. The Marietta, Ga. native earned All-CAA honors in both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions.
Berryman earned All-CAA honors three events: 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle and 100-backstroke. The junior from Wellington, New Zealand also took home All-Academic honors from the conference. Chialastri garnered All-CAA honors in the 200-freestyle competition. All-CAA honors were also won by Kyle Lukens in the 100- and 200-butterfly.
Also recognized by the conference for All-CAA performances were the 200-freestyle relay, 400-freestyle relay and 800-freestyle relay teams. The 200-freestyle, which earned gold at the CAA Championships, was comprised of Berryman, Sean Swartz, Chialastri and Mike Shaeffer. Swimming on the bronze medal winning 400-freestyle relay team were Berryman, Swartz, Chialastri and Lukens. The 800-freestyle relay team that also brought a bronze medal back to University City was made up of Chialastri, Ivo Pejovic, Ted Taylor and Lukens.
William & Mary junior Jeremiah O'Donnell garnered Swimmer of the Year honors. William & Mary's Evan Baker was named Rookie Swimmer of the Year, and UNCW freshman Devin Hall was Rookie Diver of the Year. William & Mary's Matt Crispino was voted the CAA Men's Swimming Coach of the Year for the second straight season and UNCW's Beau Bunn was selected as the CAA Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
