Men's Tennis Falls Friday to William and Mary in CAA Quarterfinals, 4-0

ELON, N.C. – The Drexel men's tennis team saw one of its best seasons in program history come to a close Friday against fourth-seeded William & Mary in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships quarterfinals. Because of weather, the match was moved inside to the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

Drexel finishes its season 13-8 overall. The 13 wins are the most wins in a single season in men's program history.

The Dragons, who entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed, played the Tribe tight in the fourth singles position, but could simply not overcome the opposition's strong play. Hamza Laalej took Lars de Boer to three sets at No. 4, but would ultimately fall, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Xabier Saavedra played his final match in the Blue and Gold, falling to All-CAA First Team selection Christian Cargill in the top spot, 6-1, 6-4. Saavedra finishes his Drexel career second all-time in singles wins by a men's player with 50.

Also playing Friday, Andrew Sinai and Sinan Orhon finished out their freshmen campaigns. Sinai fell to Addison Appleby at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4. Orhon dropped his match in the third spot to Alec Miller, 6-2, 6-2, finishing his freshman season with a team-leading 20 wins. He went 13-5 in the spring season.

Drexel's women's team also saw its season come to a close on Friday when it fell to Elon in the quarterfinals, 4-1. Click here for more.
