Women’s Swimming and Diving Grabs Three Golds on Friday Night at the #CAAChamps

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – On Friday, day three of four from Christiansburg, Va., the Drexel women's swimming and diving team took home three gold medals and one silver at the 2017 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships. It comes as the single-best night ever for the women's program at the conference championships. The Dragons also set four new school records on the evening.
Senior Rachel Bernhardt and freshman Alexa Kutch took home the two individual gold medals for the Dragons. Bernhardt set a new school record with her 1:00.37 time in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish first overall. Kutch won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.25 while she set a Drexel, CAA All-Time, CAA Championships record with her prelim time of 53.22.
In the 400-yard medley relay to close out the big night, Kutch, Bernhardt, sophomore April Forsthoffer and senior Claudia Duguay set a new Drexel standard with a time of 3:40.03 as the grouping finished with gold medals.
Senior diver Madison Kramer took home silver in the women's 1-meter board as she totaled a score of 288.10.
Forsthoffer also set a new school mark in the 400-yard individual medley with a fifth-place finishing time of 4:22.95 as she broke a record that she previously held.
Freshman Alicia Diaz placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.38 while junior Emily Joyce finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle for the top Drexel mark at 1:51.65.

The four-day meet concludes tomorrow with prelims followed by finals. On Saturday, prelims will take place at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.

Thursday – 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, Men's 1-meter, 200 free relay
Friday – 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, Women's 1-meter, 400 medley relay
Saturday – 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, Men's 3-meter, 400 free relay
