NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Drexel senior Rodney Williams and freshman Kurk Lee have been honored by the Colonial Athletic Association for their performance this season. Williams, a forward, was named to the All-CAA Third Team, while Lee was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. In addition, Williams and graduate student John Moran were selected to the CAA All-Academic Team. The announcement was made by the CAA on Thursday night's award show.
Williams led the Dragons in scoring (15.9) and rebounding (6.8), ranking him in the top 10 in the CAA in both categories. He is also third in the CAA in field-goal percentage. Williams, who is an entrepreneurship major from Richmond, Va., has scored 1,145 points in his career and is now 25th on Drexel's career scoring list. He needs just seven points to become one of just 19 players ever at Drexel to score more than 500 points in a season. Williams enters today's game with 493 points this season. He is also seventh in career blocks at the school and 17th in career rebounds.
Lee had an outstanding freshman season, scoring 15 points per game, handing out 153 assists and picking up 50 steals. The Baltimore native is fourth in the CAA in assists and third in steals per game. Lee broke the school's single-season freshman record for career assists, surpassing legendary Michael Anderson's mark. He needs just two points to set the freshman single-season scoring record, which is currently held by the late John Rankin at 466 points. Lee has 57 three-pointers and is shooting .401 from long range.
Moran came to Drexel after graduating from the University of Richmond. He is studying business administration and is from nearby Phoenixville, Pa. Moran has played in 30 games and has started four games for the Dragons. He has 25 three-pointers.
The Dragons will open up play in the CAA Championships on Friday night. Drexel will face James Madison at 8:30 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Dragons are looking to avenge two losses to the Dukes earlier this season. The winner will advance to face the College of Charleston on Saturday.
