PHILADELPHIA – Junior Hayley Hughes of the Drexel women's squash team was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Women's At-Large Academic All-Area Team on Tuesday evening. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
It marks the second time that Hughes was selected to the team after being named the 2015-16 Women's At-Large Performer of the Year a season ago as a sophomore.
Hughes went 11-5 on the 2016-17 campaign. She went 7-4 from the No. 2 position before going 3-0 from the No. 1 in the final three matches of the year as the women finished runner up in the 'B' Division Kurtz Cup at team nationals.
Earlier in the month, the New Zealand native was named a scholar athlete by the Women's College Squash Association.
She is majoring in finance.
