PHILADELPHIA - Drexel Athletics Hall of Famer Clarence "Andy" Andrews, a member of the Class of 1948, passed away last week.
Andrews was inducted into the Drexel Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. He earned three varsity letters in men's lacrosse from 1948 to 1948, and served as the Dragons' team captain as a junior and senior. Named an All-America Team member in 1947, Andrews backed it up with another All-America nod as a senior the following year. Andrews, a goalie, was the first Dragon goaltender ever to earn All-America status. He was twice named a USILA North/South All-Star and a Pennsylvania/Delaware All-Star during his tenure at Drexel.
Last season, Andrews was honored at Vidas Field as part of the men's lacrosse program's 75th Anniversary Team. He was one of just four players selected by the Drexel University Men's Lacrosse Committee to represent the decade of the 1940s.
There will be a private burial at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Maryland on the morning of September 11. A memorial gathering will follow at 1 p.m. in The Blue Heron Center. The address is:
