
Dragon Dispatches: Rowing Begins Reading Amateur Regatta Saturday Morning

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – The Drexel rowing team begins competition Saturday at the Reading Amateur Regatta on the River Thames in preparation for Henley Women's Regatta next weekend.
On Saturday, the Dragons' second varsity eight races in the Women's Senior 8 B division beginning at 6:51 a.m. (EST) in a head-to-head race against Curlew Rowing Club (UK). The winner of that race will move into the day's semis at 10:06 a.m. (EST) against the winner of Vesta Rowing Club (UK) and City of Oxford Rowing Club (UK). Drexel's varsity eight will race in the Women's Senior 8 A division beginning at 6:57 a.m. (EST) against University of Bristol/University of Bath (UK). The winner of that race will move into the semis at 10:54 a.m. (EST) against Vesta Rowing Club (UK). The Drexel double in the Women's Senior 2X division races at 8:42 a.m. (EST) against Nottingham University (UK) with the winner moving on to race again at 2:18 p.m. (EST) against the winner of Nottingham Rowing Club (UK) and Club España (MEX).
On Sunday, the double will get the day started at 4:39 a.m. (EST) against Reading University (UK) with the winner moving into the semis at 8:21 a.m. (EST) against Club España (MEX) or Reading University (UK). At 5:21 a.m. (EST), the second varsity eight takes on Warwick University (UK) for a chance to race in the semis against either University of Bath (UK) at 9:12 a.m. (EST). Drexel's varsity eight races against Wallingford Rowing Club (UK) at 5:45 a.m. (EST).
Saturday's racing will take place on a 1,500-meter course, while Sunday's racing will be 1,000 meters. The Reading Amateur Regatta was established in 1842 and serves as a lead-in to both the Henley Women's Regatta and the Henley Royal Regatta.
The Dragons are one of two crews from the United States racing in the Reading Amateur Regatta this weekend.
