PHILADELPHIA – Recently graduated standout forward Austin Williams signed a professional contract to play for Frøya Basket in Norway, he announced Wednesday morning.
Williams was named to the CAA's All-Defensive Team after leading the conference in blocked shots with 92, which was also the sixth most ever in a single season by a Dragon. The Richmond, Va. native finished his career sixth on Drexel's career list for blocked shots (143). As a senior, Williams averaged just shy of a double-double with 9.4 points and 8.5 rebounds in nearly 30 minutes per game. He shot 59.72 percent from the floor in his final year at Drexel. The shooting clip is the third best in program history for a single season.
Frøya Basket plays in the BLNO, the top professional basketball league in Norway. In 2017-18, Frøya Basket finished tied for fourth place at 14-13. Frøya Basket won the BLNO title in 2012.
Williams joins fellow 2018 graduate Sammy Mojica in signing an international deal this offseason. Mojica was drafted third overall in the BSN (Puerto Rico) Draft in April by Los Atléticos de San Germán.
