Dan Simmons was promoted to the associate athletic director at Drexel in 2005. He served as the assistant athletic director for recreation at Drexel for six seasons before being promoted. Simmons is responsible for the organization and direction of the University recreational sports program which includes intramurals, 32 club sports, group exercise and fitness programs as well as oversight of the facilities and services made available for Drexel students and campus community. Simmons is assisting the University with the planning, design and construction of a new state of the art 84,000 campus recreation set to open in the 2009-2010 academic year. Simmons is a member of the “Philadelphia City 6 Extramural Classic,” an association of the recreation directors of the cities six Division I schools and the association organizes five extramural opportunities per year for undergraduate students. He is an active member of the National-Intramural Recreational Sports Association. Simmons also serves as the sport administrator for the Drexel varsity men’s and women’s rowing program.
Prior to his arrival at Drexel, Simmons was an assistant athletic director at Philadelphia College of Textile and Science. A 1992 graduate of Villanova University, Simmons has a degree in business administration. He received a master’s degree in sport administration from Temple University in 1995.
