David Whitney played baseball and soccer at Drexel for three seasons. He was one of the top soccer players in his era and was invited to the 1956 Olympic Soccer team tryouts. An All-American in 1956, he was co-captain of the team that won the MAC championship. Whitney started all three years and in each of those seasons was an All-Middle Atlantic selection.
On the diamond, Whitney was also a three-year stater. He set the Drexel record for games and innings pitched in a season with 100. Whitney fanned 100 batters during the 1955 season.
