George Kovach helped continue Drexel’s tradition of great heavyweights. In 1983, his first season with the team, Kovach was the East Coast Conference Heavyweight Champion and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. In 1985 and led the team to its first and only ECC Championship, again taking the heavyweight crown and qualifying for nationals. The team posted a 15-1 record that season, which still stands as the best mark in school history. Kovach capped his Drexel career in 1986 by winning his third ECC Heavyweight Championship and winning ECC Most Outstanding Wrestler honors as well as earning his third trip to nationals. The heavyweight great is 14th on Drexel’s all-time wins list with 79 and is tied for second in career falls with 26 pins.
