Philadelphia - Drexel rowers Emily Coyle and Jillian Skovran were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athletes. Coyle, a sophomore, completed her first season in the women's varsity eight while Skovran, also a sophomore, competed mostly in the women's varsity four. To be a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, a rower must be a sophomore, junior or senior while competing in at least 75 percent team's races in NCAA Championship eligible boats while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher.
Coyle was a mainstay in the three seat of the women's varsity eight boat that had a remarkable season. The Dragons' top women's boat won the Kelly Cup at the Bergen Cup Regatta as the boat claimed what is considered the Philadelphia city championship among Dad Vail schools. At the Dad Vail regatta, Coyle and her boatmates claimed a bronze medal and will represent Drexel at the Henley Royal Regatta in June. Coyle maintains a 3.79 grade point average while majoring in health sciences.
Skovran rowed in the two seat of the women's varsity four for much of the season and helped lead the boat to a fine showing at the Dad Vail Regatta. In one of the team's top moments of the first day of Dad Vail, the boat nabbed the final semifinal position in its heat by just 0.320 seconds. Drexel edged Fairfield for third place to reach the semifinals where the boat was eventually eliminated. Skovran currenly holds a 3.57 grade point average while studying graphic design.
