Marginean to Debut With Romanian Senior National Team in August

Philadelphia - Gabriela Marginean's whirlwind post-graduation tour continues in August when the Drexel great returns to her native country to make her debut with the Romanian Senior National Team in its quest to qualify for next year's EuroBasket Women's Championship Tournament. Marginean's team opens play on Aug. 14 against Latvia and must finish in the top two of its group, which also includes Serbia and Israel, to qualify for the championship tournament.
Marginean has had success playing for the U18 and U20 national teams, prior to and during the first summer after coming to Drexel. She was a captain of the Romanian U20 team in 2006 and led her squad in scoring (19.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) during tournament play that year. Marginean's best game in international play came during the 2007 European Championships when she exploded for 36 points against Lithuania.
After its Group B opener against Latvia on Aug. 14, the Romanians take on Aug. 17 and Israel on Aug. 20 with return games coming against each groupmate on Aug. 23, 26 and 29.
Marginean completed her career as the all-time leading scorer at Drexel and in the CAA and among women's basketball players in Philadelphia. She became the first Dragon selected in the WNBA Draft and played four games for the Minnesota Lynx before returning the Drexel for graduation, collecting dual degrees in sport managment and psychology.
