Limerick, Pa. - Drexel golf alumnus Michael Carr rode a tournament-best single round score of 67 in the first round to take the Montgomery County Amateur Championship by four strokes. Current Drexel golfers James Braunsberg and Ben Feld also competed as Braunsberg took third place while Feld finished tied for eighth. The championship was a two-round event held at Raven's Claw Golf Club.
Carr followed up his first-round 67 with a solid even-par 71 to claim the championship. While Carr's 67 was the best score of the first round, his second-round 71 was only bested by one player in the field: Braunsberg. After a disappointing 41 in the back nine of the first round, the Drexel sophomore rebounded to shoot a 68 in the second round that included a 34 on the back nine that gave him trouble the round before. Carr and Braunsberg were the only two golfers in the field to record a score in the 60's during the event. The 68 catapulted Braunsberg to third place with a total of 145. Feld, another Drexel sophomore, also had a strong showing. Feld was tied for sixth after the first round after carding a 73 and totaled a 76 in the second round to finish in a tie for eighth place with a 149.
