BOSTON, Mass. – The Drexel men's rowing team qualified as a team for the IRA National Championships on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif. from June 2-4, USRowing announced Monday.
The Dragons will have four boats competing at the national championships – the varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight and varsity four. This is the sixth year in a row the Dragons have qualified as a team for competition at IRAs.
Drexel captured the automatic qualifier at the Dad Vail Regatta with the varsity eight gold medal. The gold medal was the varsity eight's second all-time at Dad Vail and first since 2013. The third varsity eight picked up a silver medal at the event. The Dragons won the overall team title for the fifth straight season, tying the record set by Purdue (2000-04). Drexel also took home the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup for the seventh straight season back in April, and has been ranked or receiving votes in the USRowing weekly polls all season.
Last season at IRAs, the varsity eight finished 20th overall. Both the second varsity eight and third varsity eight boats made their way into the third finals, finishing 18th and 16th overall, respectively.
