Men's Crew Takes the Bronze Medal Sunday at the San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Drexel Crew earned the bronze medal Sunday in the Copley Cup grand final at the 43rd annual San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.

Drexel's varsity eight took home the bronze by finishing with a 6:14.966 in the grand final in its quest for the Copley Cup, improving on last season's sixth-place finish. Yale took the gold as the only boat to finish below the six-minute mark at 5:58.760. However, the Dragons topped three ranked boats in No. 15 Stanford, No. 16 Oregon State and No. 20 Michigan. The boat raced to a second-place finish in its heat on Saturday with a time of 6:08.227. The time narrowly staved off Oregon State's 6:08.915 and was behind only Yale's 6:01.997.

The Dragons' second varsity eight finished sixth overall with a 6:33.381. California took the gold with a 6:07.074. The boat got off to a quick start Saturday finishing second in its heat after crossing the finish line at the 6:15.843 mark. Oregon State comfortably took first with a 6:12.327, while Drexel held off third-place UC Santa Barbara's 6:17.231.

The men's team members who did not make the trip to the west coast travelled to northern Virginia with the women's team to compete at the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday. Click here to read more.
