FAIRFAX, Va. – Drexel Crew won two races and grabbed two second-place finishes Sunday at the Occoquan Sprints on the Occoquan Reservoir in northern Virginia.
The Dragons got wins from the men's freshmen eight and the women's second varsity eight as well as runner-up finishes from the women's varsity eight and the women varsity four.
The men's freshmen eight kicked off Sunday's success for Drexel in the Vince Vidas boat, racing to a winning time of 5:06.10 and beating second-place Delaware by more than three seconds. Drexel's women's second varsity eight, racing in the Maria Papadakis boat, also picked up a victory, finishing with a time of 4:53.30 to narrowly edge North Carolina in a photo finish by .45 seconds.
Drexel's women's varsity eight also found success on the reservoir in the Marlene Buckley II boat, clocking a 5:47.21 to finish just behind North Carolina. The women's varsity four in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat also earned a second-place finish with a 5:17.67 again only behind the Tar Heels.
