Dragon Dispatches: Varsity 8, Double into Saturday's Racing at Henley

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – The Drexel women's rowing team advanced its varsity eight and double into Saturday's action after a strong Friday of racing at the Henley Women's Regatta on the Thames in Henley-on-Thames, England.
The Dragons' varsity eight, racing in the Championship 8 division, found itself matched up with stateside-foe Rhode Island in heats. Drexel narrowly edged the Rams on the 1,500-meter Thames race course by half a length in a final time of 4:48. The Dragons will race Saturday at 9:32 a.m. against Great Britain U23 National Team (UK) for a spot in the semifinals. Drexel's double also advanced to Saturday's action with a two-length victory over Sheffield University (UK) in a final time of 5:42. The Dragons matchup Saturday with Thames Rowing Club A (UK) at 11:20 a.m. (EST). Drexel's second varsity eight fell to Newcastle University (UK) Friday in the Aspirational Academic 8 division by two lengths.
