Donald Shank is best remembered for his 28-year association with the Drexel Athletic Department and his devotion to the program and its athlete. He was a friend and confident of all Drexel athletes and coaches alike until his death, at the age of 54, due to cancer in 1988.
Shank joined the Drexel staff in 1958 as an assistant and line football coach and served in that capacity until the decision was made to drop football in 1973. He also served as a freshman baseball coach form 1964-68 and as an assistant coach for the varsity baseball team from 1967-1986. In 1963, Shank was appointed to the full-time position of Director of Athletic Facilities and Field Activities. He remained a member of the Athletics Department until 1986.
