George Bickley Stevens starred at Drexel in football and track and field, earning three varsity letters in each sport before graduating in 1937. Stevens was a member of the Varsity Club for three years and served as a member of the Athletics Council as a junior and a senior. His gridiron glory was epitomized during Drexel’s 34-7 drubbing of Juniata to kickoff the 1936 season. In the third quarter Stevens broke through the offensive line to block a kick, then scooped up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. Stevens, the kicker for the team, also converted on four-of-five extra-point attempts in the victory.
Stevens, a well-rounded student-athlete, was voted class treasurer in his pre-junior year and was a two-year member of the Military Ball Committtee and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was also the recipient of the Charles Etting Scholarship as a senior.
