John Ward was an outstanding pitcher during his days at Drexel. He competed for four seasons on the diamond and set 12 school records. Ward’s 1967 season was one of the best for any Drexel baseball player in school history. He posted an 8-1 record on the mound and had and ERA of 0.97. Both his ERA and his winning percentage were single-season records. He was named the MAC South Division Most Valuable Pitcher and was named First Team All-MAC South.
A winner of the Gold Award as a senior in 1969, Ward set school records with 211 innings pitched in his career, 178 strikeouts and a 1.71 career ERA. He also threw 22 complete games in 23 starts.
