Michael La Bove was one of Drexel’s first football greats and the school’s first All-American. He was a four-year letterwinner on the gridiron. As a freshman running back he set a kickoff return record, taking one back 95 yards for a score. At 180 pounds, La Bove was an imposing running back, and is often considered one of Drexel’s best at the position.
As team captain, La Bove closed out his All-America senior year, by scoring the final touchdown in a 21-0 route of Saint Joseph’s to give Drexel a 7-1 record on the season. After graduating from Drexel in 1932, La Bove went on to become a teacher.
