Theresa Walsh was a member of the first women’s swimming team and was elected captain. The first team went undefeated in dual meets and won the PAIAW Swimming championship. She gained All-American recognition in seven events as the PAIAW meet. She won the 50- and 100-yard backstroke, the 100- and 400-yard medley relays and the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays.
Walsh was the only Drexel swimmer at the 1976 EAIAW Championship. There was no women’s team at the time. Despite that, Walsh scored 49 points in five events for Drexel and the team finished 20th out of 41 in the final team standings.
Walsh had the distinction of swimming on the men’s team for one season in 1976-77 before there was a women’s team. She earned a win at the Swarthmore meet in the 200-yard backstroke.
