Towson, Md. - Sophomore keeper Cory Robertson came up with 10 saves, one short of his career high. But two first-half goals proved to be too much for Drexel (5-7, 1-5 CAA) to overcome, falling to Towson (9-1-2, 5-0-1 CAA) in a match that was rescheduled from Oct. 6 due to rain.
Sebastian Haensel scored first for the Tigers, who remain undefeated in conference play with the victory. Haensel knocked in a shot from 10 yards out off a cross by T.J. Thompson that was deflected in the goal box. The score put Towson on top 1-0 in the 19th minute.
The Tigers' second goal game courtesy of Tom Appel-Schumacher who headed home a cross from Mosca Cisneros in the 42nd minute. Towson outshot Drexel 12-6 in the first period but both teams put three shots on goal in the period.
Robertson went on to make seven saves in the second period, to shutout the Tigers in the stanza. But Drexel did not find the net despite putting four more shots on goal. Towson keeper Greg Flaherty made seven saves for his fourth straight shutout.
Fabio Assumpcao led the Dragons with three shots. Sophomore Kevin Glover saw his first action of the season in the match.
Drexel returns home for a pair of conference matches against Georgia State and UNC Wilmington this weekend. The Dragons take on the Panthers of Georgia State under the lights at Vidas Field at 7:00 on Friday, Oct. 13.
