St. Louis, Mo. - Steve Mytych and Ryan Hluschak rebounded from heartbreaking losses in the opening round of the 2008 Wrestling Championships to advance in the consolation bracket before eventually falling to seeded opponents. Mytych defeated American's Jasen Borshoff, 1-0, in the 125-pound division before suffering an 8-1 defeat to seventh-seeded Michael Sees of Bloomsburg. Hluschak topped ninth-seeded Chase Pami of Cal Poly, 3-1, in overtime before falling to Cyler Sanderson of Iowa State, 6-3.. Mytych's win gave him 38 victories on the season breaking Mike Carroll's single-season record at Drexel.
The pair had eventful wins in their first consolation bracket matches. Mytych got the only point of the match on an escape to start the second period. Borshoff elected to start the third period in a neutral position but was unable to secure a takedown as Mytych's escape was enough for the victory. Hluschak and Pami each scored an escape as the match headed to sudden victory overtime knotted at 1-1. Hluschak earned a takedown to clinch the match and stun the ninth-seed in the 157-pound championship.
