
Dragons Cap 2008 Dad Vail with Fifth Place Finish in Petite Final

Philadelphia - The Drexel rowing team completed one of its most successful Dad Vail Regattas in recent memory as four boats competed in Saturday action highlighted by the men's varsity eight fifth-place finish in the petite final. Four of the Dragons' five eights earned entries into semifinals in the biggest collegiate regatta in the country.
The Dragons' first action of the day began at 7:57 a.m. when the men's novice eight took fourth-place in a semifinal race with a time of 6:11.12. Drexel finished ahead of fifth-place finisher Johns Hopkins by more than six seconds. Drexel notched fifth place in a men's junior varsity eight semifinal as the Dragons' time of 5:56.66 was more than three second better than Bucknell.
In the final women's varsity eight semifinal heat, Drexel took fifth place with a time of 6:39.83 just one spot away from a berth in the petite final. The men's varsity eight followed with a hotly contested race that saw the Dragons take third place and secure their spot in the petite final. Drexel's time of 5:40.66 trailed only Grand Valley and Jacksonville in the heat. The Dragons' time was the fourth fastest of all the times recorded in the three semifinal heats but Drexel had to settle for the petite final appearance because of the tough heat. In fact, Drexel's semifinal time was .006 seconds faster than eventual Dad Vail men's varsity eight champion Purdue's semifinal time.
Drexel finished the Dad Vail Regatta with a fifth-place finish in the petite final clocking a time of 6:01.62. The Dragons topped sixth-place finisher, Florida Tech by nearly 1.5 seconds.
