Men's Varsity Eight Races Top Competition at Head of Charles Regatta

Cambridge, Mass. - Drexel Crew sent its men's varsity eight to the Head of the Charles Regatta, one of the most prestigious races in rowing, where the newly named "Annette Pennoni" boat finished 32nd of 37 entrants. The race included some of the fastest boats in rowing with top entrants from schools such as the University of Washington, California-Berkeley and Stanford as well as national teams from the United States and Germany.

The Drexel boat, coxed by Steve Matyas, finished with a time of 15:16.6 in the race. The Annette Pennoni included rowers Filip Topalovic (S), Jacob Sloan (7), Marty Khait (6), Chris Hillenbrand (5), Aleksandar Radovic (4), Greg Pierce (3), Anthony Fitipaldi (2), and Will Masters (B). The Dragons finished ahead of MIT, Georgetown, Columbia, and a Northeastern entrant along with a club team. Tideway Scullers took first place at the event with California-Berkeley claiming second and Washington crossing the line with the third-best time.

Drexel Crew will return to the familiar waters of the Schuylkill River for the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Oct. 24.
