Women's Varsity Eight Wins Petite Final at San Diego Crew Classic

San Diego, Calif. - Drexel's top women's varsity eight claimed first place in the petite final of the 2010 San Diego Crew Classic. The Dragons outlasted second-place San Diego State by crossing more than three seconds ahead to claim the petite final. The event was the first regatta of the spring for Drexel and is the first of four straight weekend regattas.
Coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Candice Webb, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Juliana DeMarici, Emily Coyle, Casondra Clawson and bow Mary Kain guided the Marlene Buckley to a time of 6:57.60 and was the lone boat to break the seven-minute mark. San Diego State crossed in 7:01.01 with third-place Kansas State clocking a 7:02.35. Trinity, Loyola and St. Mary's claimed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
