Dragons Big Second Half Leads to 71-58 win at Niagara

Niagara University, N.Y. – Drexel opened the second half with a 27-3 run and defeated Niagara on the road, 71-58. Chris Fouch led the way with 24 points, while Damion Lee and Samme Givens added 19 and 17 points, respectively.
The Purple Eagles made just one of their first 17 shots to start the second half. On the other end of the court, Drexel, and mainly Chris Fouch caught fire. The junior drained five three-pointers in the second half as Drexel's lead swelled to as many as 17 points. Fouch had 21 of his game-high 24 points in the second half.
Drexel's defense held Niagara to just 21 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes after allowing the home team to shoot 52 percent in the first half. For the second straight game, the Dragons made their free throws in the second half. Drexel was 12-for17 from the line (71 percent) in the second half.
Drexel led by as many as nine points in the early going after a pair of Givens' free throws put the Dragons ahead, 17-8. The rest of the first half belonged to Niagara, as the Purple Eagles closed the half with a 29-14 run to take a 37-31 lead at halftime. They were 6-for-10 from long range and had four straight possessions end with made three-pointers. The Purple Eagles shot 52 percent from the floor. Damion Lee scored 16 points in the first half on 6-for-9 shooting for the Dragons. Lee made four three-pointers and Givens had 10 first-half points, but the Dragons could only muster five points from anyone else.
Fouch was 6-for-12 from behind the arc and 6-for-6 from the line. Lee had four three-pointers and tied with Givens for the team-lead with eight rebounds. Givens missed just two shots (6-for-8) from the floor and tied a career-high with five assists.
Drexel returns to campus for a home game against Bradley on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
