Dragons defeat Binghamton for fourth straight win

Binghamton, N.Y. – Samme Givens led a balanced Drexel attack with 15 points as the Dragons won their fourth straight game with a 68-44 win at Binghamton on Thursday night. The Dragons opened up a double-digit lead in the first half and never trailed in the game as they improved to 6-4 on the season.
Drexel closed the first half with a 10-2 run to take it biggest first half lead at 36-22. Drexel shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and had 20 points in the paint. Givens led the Dragons with nine points, while Dartaye Ruffin added eight points and was perfect in four attempts from the floor.
The Dragons made sure there would be no comeback attempt with a strong early portion of the second half. Drexel made six of its first seven shots and opened the half with an 18-5 run. The lead swelled to as many as 28 points in the second half when Dartaye Ruffin scored on a put-back. Coach Bruiser Flint emptied his bench with a few minutes remaining as Drexel went into the holiday break with a road victory. Drexel shot a blistering 63 percent in the second half and 55 percent in the game.
Givens had his third straight game with at least 15 points. He was an efficient 5-for-6 from the floor and added six rebounds and three assists. Damion Lee had 10 of his 12 points in the first seven minutes of the second half. The freshman also had three assists and two steals. Ruffin had a big game off the bench, making five of his six attempts to finish with 10 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Binghamton (0-10) was led by Ben Dickinson, who had a game-high 17 points. The Bearcats shot just 36 percent from the floor and committed 14 turnovers.
Drexel is off until Dec. 28, when the teams hosts Fairfield University at the Daskalakis Athletic Center at 7:30 p.m.
