Drexel Splits Meet Against Lehigh on Saturday’s Senior Day

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team topped Lehigh, 167-133, while the Mountain Hawks defeated the women's team, 182-112. The Dragons had a number of outstanding performances, including a combined 18 top place finishes. The women dropped to 2-6 on the season. The men's team is now 6-2 overall and 4-0 at home meets held at the Drexel Pool.
The men's and women's team both opened up Saturday's meet with two strong first place finishes in the 200 yard medley relays. Katie Duggan, Jessica Gidzinski, Lauren Faykes, and Devina Tyagi stopped the clock first with a time of 1:49.96. For the men, John Quagliariello, Chad Schmidt, Mike Krohn, and Alex Bagshaw earned first place with a time of 1:34.69.
On the men's side, freshman Alex Galinskiy continues to outswim his opponents. Galinskiy earned first place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:42.47) and the 100 yard freestyle (47.41). He took second behind teammate Mike Krohn in the 100 yard butterfly. Krohn stopped the clock at 51.62 for first place and also took first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:53.98. Fellow freshman John Quagliariello won the 100 yard backstroke (53.12) and the 200 yard backstroke (1:56.12). Freshmen Andrew Reimon clocked top times in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.02) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:08.75).
For the women, junior Lauren Faykes won all three of her individual events. Faykes had recorded top times in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.33), the 200 yard butterfly (2:11.53), and the 100 yard butterfly (59.02). Freshman Brianna Bentz was the top finisher in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.30. Devina Tyagi shined on senior day and posted first place in the 100 yard freestyle (54.79) and narrowly missed first place in 100 yard backstroke clocking in at 59.14 behind Lehigh's Alissa Leung. The women's team ended the meet with a first place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Brianna Bentz, Devina Tyagi, Katie Duggan, and Morgan Cichewicz posted a top time of 3:39.43.
Drexel diver Stephen Cal swept the boards for the second consecutive weekend. Cal won the 1 meter event with a score of 304.42 and the three meter event with 287.70.
The Drexel men's and women's swim team has a break until the CAA Championships set for Wednesday, February 22 through February 25. The Drexel men's diving team returns to action on Friday, February 3 against Navy and Columbia starting at 2:00 p.m.
