Mershon Named CAA Co-Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - Senior guard Hollie Mershon, a Preseason First Team All-CAA selection, got her season off to a strong start on Friday as she scored 24 points, adding nine rebounds and five assists to earn the CAA Co-Player of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday. Mershon shares the honors with Emily Correal of William & Mary.
Mershon finished just one rebound shy of her first career double-double, matching a career-high with nine boards in the Dragons' 60-50 win at Providence. Her 24 points paced the Dragons and led all scorers, and was just three points shy of a career-best for Mershon in that category, as well. The Malvern, Pa. native shot 6-for-7 from the free throw line, helping the Dragons go 11-for-13 from the stripe.
Mershon was a Second Team All-CAA choice last season, after averaging 14.5 points per game and 5.2 rebounds a contest. She was also the Dragons' Team Co-MVP along with Kamile Nacickaite.
The Dragons will return to action on Wednesday, when they host Saint Joseph's in their home debut. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
