Women's Tennis Defeats St. Peter's on Senior Day, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's tennis team concluded its home schedule for the season on Saturday, defeating St. Peter's on Senior Day, 6-1. Dragon seniors Sonja Stosic and Elise Leizerovich each were big contributors to the victory, winning their singles and doubles matches as the Dragons cruised to the victory.
The doubles point was swept by Drexel. No. 3 was first off the court, with Nicole Pivonka and Alex Bell winning, 8-1. Stosic and Zeynep Mafa wrapped up the point at No. 1, winning 8-1. Elise Leizerovich and Marcela Rosales also won at No. 2, 8-2 to complete the sweep.
Stosic got things started in singles play with a strong all-around match at No. 1. She won 6-0 in the first set, then came back out with some fantastic shot making and bringing her A-game for her final match at the Armory. She won 6-3 in the second to finish the match.
Rosales was next to finish, posting a duplicate 6-0, 6-3 score at No. 3. At No. 2, Zeynep Mafa won 6-2, 6-2 in a solid performance, clinching the overall match for the Dragons.
At No. 6 singles, Nicole Pivonka played a perfect match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Next up was Leizerovich, who finished off a memorable senior day with her 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, displaying a powerful baseline game that wore down her opponent.
The Dragons will continue with a busy week on Wednesday, when they visit Saint Joseph's. They will also play at Delaware on Saturday.
