PHILADELPHIA - Head Coach Denise Dillon and the Drexel women's basketball team has announced the addition of Michelle Baker to the coaching staff for the 2012-13 season. Baker, who graduated from Saint Joseph's in the spring, will serve as a Graduate Assistant and will help guide the Dragons while pursuing her masters at the University.
Baker spent a stellar four-year career at Saint Joseph's, finishing as the program's all-time leader for games played (127) and 14th in points (1,184). As a senior, Baker was named a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection when she led the team with 13.0 points per game. She was also recognized as an All-Big Five performer as she led the Hawks to their third-straight postseason appearance and a second-round appearance in the WNIT.
Baker was named the Hawks' Team MVP as a junior and senior, earning A-10 All-Defensive honors during her junior campaign.
"We are thrilled to bring Michelle on board," Dillon remarked. "She has a remarkable energy and enthusiasm for the game of basketball. I know that our team and our staff had the utmost respect for her as a player at Saint Joseph's. She has already shown herself to be a proactive part of our program, and her Philadelphia roots will be a tremendous asset."
Baker joins a Drexel squad looking to extend its program-record streak of four-straight postseason appearances. The Dragons won their first-ever postseason game last year, advancing to the second round of the WNIT. It was their third-straight WNIT appearance after winning the Colonial Athletic Association title and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
