Women's Squash Takes First Place at Smith Round Robin

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Drexel women's squash team has continued its strong play in the winter, winning the Smith Round Robin this weekend with three victories in two days. The Dragons defeated host Smith 9-0, then followed that up with a 7-2 win over Connecticut College on Saturday. The next day, Drexel completed the sweep with a dominating 9-0 win over William Smith. Drexel has now won four of five since resuming its schedule last weekend, and has five wins on the season.
The Dragons dropped just one set in their 9-0 win over Smith, with Kaitlyn Money winning a 3-1 decision at No. 1 and everyone else in the Drexel ladder taking 3-0 decisions. Atiqah Shahrin was particularly dominant at No. 5, winning 11-0, 11-0, 11-1. Claire Anderson also had an impressive outing at No. 9, winning 11-2, 11-2, 11-0. Katherine Barnes, Kiran Vasudevan, Disha Thahryamal, Courtney Sabo, Davila Thompson and Anna Schmiedicke were also victorious over Smith, each by 3-0 counts.
Later in the afternoon, Drexel squared off with Connecticut College, winning 7-2. Again, the seven victors did not cede much to their opponents, with six 3-0 wins and a 3-1 win by Sabo at No. 8. This time, Damindhi Udangawa took over the No. 1 spot from Money, winning 11-8, 11-3, 11-4. At No. 2, Money handled business to the tune of a 11-1, 11-3, 11-7 win.
Vasudevan won at No. 4 11-7, 11-1, 11-5, while Laura Rahauser stepped in at No. 5 and emerged with an 11-5, 11-2, 11-5 win. Thahryamal took the No. 6 match, 11-6, 11-5, 11-0. Sabo's match at No. 8 was a 6-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5 win, while Davila Thompson won at No. 9, 11-8, 14-12, 13-11.
On Sunday, Drexel was again dominant in its 9-0 win over William Smith. Only one match was not a 3-0 victory, Sabo's 8-11, 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8 win at No. 8. Thahryamal played perhaps the most efficient match of the day for the Dragons, taking her decision at No. 6 11-3, 11-3, 11-2. Drexel added a strong 11-2, 11-1, 11-0 win at No. 10 by Anna Schmiedicke for good measure.
