Drexel Men's Tennis Sweeps Saint Francis

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel men's tennis team defeated Saint Francis (N.Y.) in a 7-0 decision yesterday as the Dragons played their first home match of the spring season.
The Dragons swept the match starting with strong doubles wins by Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Skyler Davis, Alex Fioravante and Xabier Saavedra, and Tyler Pultro and Dan Hansen. The men served well which helped them hold serve and they also returned well
which helped them get the point started and break the opponents serve. Their attack at the net was aggressive as they made most of their returns and were able to hold serve and break at No.2 and No.3. At No.1, Ouabdelmoumen and Davis used mental toughness and a high level of concentration to win the tiebreak and take the match 8-7. This pair is now 2-0 in doubles play.
Fast footwork, focused attacks, and high energy contributed to the Dragons success during singles play. Ouabdelmoumen, Davis, Fioravante, Saavedra, Paul Stauskas, and Pultro took each of their matches with a certain ease that comes with strong work ethic. Ouabdelmoumen won his match in two sets with consistent ground strokes and forceful point winning attacks. At No.2, team captain Davis won his first set 7-5. He was able to break serve at 5-5 and serve it out, then went on to win the third set tiebreak 10-8. No.3 Foiravante used his masterful defense along with his ability to open the court up, to take his match. Saveedra played high quality tennis with his attitude and energy as he took his match in two sets. Both No.5 Stauskas and No.6 Pultro won their matches in two sets. Stauskas showed good rhythm and heavy groin strokes and used fitness as his weapon. Pultro has shown great athleticism in his first singles this season. His serve and big forehand helped him dominate.
The men return to the court on Sunday, February 10 as they take on Morgan State at the Drexel Armory. The matches are set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
