Palik and Cimato Conclude Season at the NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - Drexel wrestlers Brandon Palik and Frank Cimato each went 1-2 at the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The pair of wins marks second-year Head Coach Matt Azevedo's first national victories at Drexel.
Cimato, who wrestles at 141 pounds, opened the championships by falling in a 5-2 decision to Edinboro's Mitchell Port early in the day. On Thursday night, Cimato, now competing with his back against the wall, defeated West Virginia's Nathan Pennesi by a 7-1 score in the consolation first round. The win was the 31st of the season for Cimato. On Friday afternoon, Rutger's Trevor Melde pinned Cimato with 1:29 on the clock.
Palik, Drexel's 197-pounder, won in sudden victory over Virginia's Michael Salopek, earning a 5-3 decision. With the win, Palik advanced to face Penn State's Quentin Wright. Wright, the national champion two years ago who was undefeated this year, edged Palik, 3-2. On the second day of competition, Palik dropped a close match in extra time to Iowa's Nathan Burak, 3-1.
