
Crew Wins Bergen and Kelly Cups for Second Straight Year

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's and women's varsity eight boats won the Bergen and Kelly Cups earning both City Championship titles for the second-straight year and only the second time in program history. The men's team has defended the Bergen Cup for three consecutive seasons, while the women have won the Kelly Cup four out of the last five years. On the day, Drexel Crew finished in the top-two of every event on Saturday, including eight first-place and four second-place finishes.
The men's varsity eight, second varsity eight, freshmen eight and varsity four stopped the clock first. The men's freshmen four, lightweight four, and pair all took second. On the women's side, the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and pair won their events. The women's freshmen eight crossed the finish line second.
The women's varsity eight placed ahead of Villanova, Temple, Saint Joseph's, La Salle and Philly U with a first-place time of 6:36.6 for the Kelly Cup. Kerry Walsh coxed the Marlene Buckley II shell with stroke Julia Jackson, Alexa Antonioli, Kayla Wroblesky, Mollie Cusack, Amanda O'Malley, Bridget Pfeifer, Jayme Batcher and bow Colleen Delaney.
The women's second varsity eight had the fastest time of 6:49.6 placeind ahead of Villanova, La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Temple. The Maria Papadakis boat featured coxswain Catherine Hamilton, stroke Elizabeth Campanella, Emily Gartland, Olivia Babiec, Sierra Baca, Amanda Kleuser, Elizabeth Daugherty, Tori King and bow Elise Levito.
The women's varsity four crossed the finish line at 7:21.6 ahead of Temple, Villanova and Saint Joseph's. Coxswain Sarah Messenger guided the Sandra Lee Sheller boat with stroke Amanda Dargay, Elise Panacek, Kathie Cheng and bow Alyssa Leahy. The women's pair also clocked in the fastest time of 8:12.6 over a pair of Villanova boats and Philly U. The winning Warren and Betty Kephart boat included stroke Barbara McKenna and bow Brogan Piecara.
The women's freshmen eight placed second with a time of 7:17.8 behind Temple. The owls clocked in at 7:07.5 for first-place. Rachel Bowen coxed the Marlene Buckley shell with stroke Taylor Brady, Kate Wilchek, Jordan Marinchak, Elisabeth Wagner, Caitlin Bubel, Julie McGlynn, Rebecca McCool and bow Ashley Lidwell. The Dragons finished before La Salle and Villanova.

The Louis Krall boat featured coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Kurt Linton, Vanja Busic, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, John Pieper, Michael Faust and bow Casimir Czworkowski. The Dragons defeated Villanova, Saint Joseph's, Temple and La Salle.
The men's second varsity eight finished ahead of La Salle and Temple with a first-place time of 6:02.7. The Annette Pennoni boat was led by Victoria Kenion, stroke Marko Durica, Milos Rujevic, Ian Luetzow, Brian McCabe, James Byrne, Brian Kissam, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Christian Ladd.
The men's freshmen eight defeated Saint Joseph's from lane three with a time of 5:58.8. Christopher Henderson coxed the Vince Vidas shell with stroke Daniel Dollin, Mikulas Sum, Nicholas Capaldi, Michael DiLucca, Dave Hanrahan, Daniel Palombo, Daniel Pyle and bow Lawrence Lindawan.
The men's varsity four outlasted Temple and Philly U with a first-place time of 6:43.7. The LeBow College of Business consisted of coxswain Diana Fox, stroke Mahmoud Shurbaji, Jake Murphy, Ryan McSpedon and bow Matt Gehret.
The men's freshmen four placed second with a time of 7:10.45 against opposing crews from Saint Joseph's, Villanova, La Salle and Philly U. The runner-up Tobey and Kim Oxholm shell included Zachary Morris, stroke Todd Keiser, Robert Greene, Jacob Bond and bow Leif Malm. The Dragons will race against Saint Joseph's, Villanova, La Salle and Philly U.
The men's lightweight four had the second-best time of 6:50.9. Temple place first, while Villanova clocked in at third. The Dawn Byers boat was led by coxswain Ariana Kaufmann, stroke Dean Hill, Adam Cordi, Ethan McCulla and bow Andrew Weinstein. The men's pair also came in second with a time 7:03.24 behind Villanova. Stroke Timothy Drake and bow Cameron Stains guided the Julia Grace ahead of Philly U.
