Hempstead, N.Y. – The Drexel wrestling team fell to EIWA opponent Hofstra, 29-9, on the road on Friday evening. The Dragons move to 4-12 overall and 0-3 in conference, while the Pride improve to 5-6, 3-2 EIWA.
Hofstra struck early, with two major decisions coming from their 125 and 133 pounders. The Pride's Luke Vaith earned a technical fall to take the 141 match and Drexel's redshirt freshman Matthew Cimato lost a 3-0 decision at 149 to give Hofstra the first four matches. Senior Austin Sommer picked up the Dragons' first victory of the night at 157 with a 5-3 decision over Hofstra's Jahlani Callender.
The Pride continued to take the next three matches at 165, 174, and 184. Brandon Palik came out strong with a win-by-fall at 1:48 over Hofstra's Zeal McGrew, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit the Pride had created.
