Drexel Hall of Famer Al Laverson Passes Away

Al Laverson, a member of the Drexel Athletics Hall of Fame, recently passed away. Mr. Laverson was one of the longest tenured coaches in Drexel history, serving as a member of the Drexel Athletics Department for more than 45 years.
Mr. Laverson, a distinguished World War II veteran, was the men's tennis coach at the school for 32 years. He also served as an assistant soccer coach for 43 years, the first 29 under Drexel Hall of Fame coach Don Yonker and the next 14 under Johnson Bowie. He was also a member of the coaching staff on the 1958 national championship team.
Laverson was an All-American soccer player as an undergraduate at Temple University. He played for four seasons with the Owls and also played in the Maccabian Games in Israel. Mr. Laverson, who was inducted into the Drexel Hall of Fame in 1996, played professional soccer with the Philadelphia Americans after graduation. He lived in Haddonfield, N.J., with his wife, Muriel.
